"¡Que viva la mujer!"
by Christy Martinez-Garcia
Vol. 17, Issue 3,
March/marzo 2023
This month's cover may seem repetitive as the text is from one of my previous Word from the Publisher reflecting on March as Women's History Month – commemorating and encouraging the study, observance, and celebration of the vital role of women in American history. Too often Latinas are left out of history. As such, I include the impact several local women made on me including my mother San Juanita "Janie" Castaneda who has been battling cancer, and how I try my best to pay it forward.
No doubt history is based on perspective. Fortunately for me, I was always surrounded by women of all backgrounds who invested in me and always made me feel valued and significant in my world. Again, to all the women in our community - THANK YOU for your contributions. Your lives, actions, and bravery inspire us!
Continued blessings to you and your family! ¡Bendiciones continuas para usted y su familia!
Editor's Note: Two days before this issue was published Christy'e mother lost her battle with cancer, but her memory will live strong and is now embedded in the pages and history included in Latino Lubbock Magazine.
